Audi announced a 4,800-mile American driving tour, known as the Audi Mileage Marathon Car, yesterday in an effort to promote the arrival of the carmaker’s TDI (turbocharged direct injection) clean-diesel technology in the US. This advanced powertrain, which will be in direct competition with Mercedes Benz’s Bluetec system, will be introduced early next year in the 2009Audi Q7 3.0 TDI.

The 15-day marathon will feature 13 daily stages where 184 drivers from around the world take turns experiencing the power, handling and efficiency ofAudi ’s line of TDI vehicles for the U.S. The tour will pass through Chicago, Dallas and Las Vegas along the way and will feature highway and rural driving to emulate real-world driving as much as possible.
